Why the Farm Smells So Bad

The baby bear asked the papa bear, “Why does the farm smell so bad?” Here’s what the papa bear said. “The person who owns the farm is the shepherd. Most of the animals on the farm are sheeple and they sit in the pews. Other sheeple, who are more important than the sheeple in the pews, stand at the altars. The shepherd tells the sheeple in the pews and the sheeple at the altars what to do, say, and think. Most of the sheeple follow whatever the shepherd says. Every time the shepherd does or says something bad, which is very often, it stinks to high heaven. Most of the sheeple in the pews and many of the sheeple at the altars say nothing about their shepherd, even though they know that every time the shepherd does or says something bad, the smell makes you sick.” The baby bear asked the papa bear, “Why don’t the sheeple get a good shepherd, because then the farm wouldn’t smell so bad.” The papa bear said, “The great super-pooper, who is the boss of all the shepherds, gets to say who all the shepherds are. The sheeple have no say in who their shepherd is.” The baby bear said, “That’s not right.” The papa bear said, “You’re right, but that’s the way the super-pooper and the shepherds run all the farms.” The baby bear said, “That really stinks. When I grow up, I’m going to do something about it.” October 1, 2004
